It might seem "crazy" to have such a philosophy, but over the years I have seen how "difficult" it can be if a breeder lets a male sire to many litters. From time to time there has been studs that has produced so many litters, that the owners, the following year or so, had a hard time finding a suitable mate for his/hers stud or queen, simply because it was hard finding a cat, of the opposite sex, that hadn`t the sire in question in the pedigree.
I also look at the philosophy, etichs and moral the breeder has, because I don´t want to support just "any" breeder. I do not like when a breeder keeps his/hers cat(s) in so called "runs", who quit conterary to the term, are not big enough for the cats to even run in. Such a breeder will automatically get a "No", if they ask if they can borrow one of my males for a breeding.
Then there are those breeders, who has a so called "revolving-door breeding", where the cats are sold as soon as they have been used in the breeding program. That means that they are being sold, the minute they have been neutered, and the explanation is normally, that the breeder in question feels, that the neutered cat will have a much better life in a new home. That always raises the question in my mind, "What kind of life did that particular cat have in that home?", when the breeder him/herself, thinks that the cats life will be improved, by moving into a new home! I do not wish to be associated with such a breeder, so they to will get a "No", if they ask to borrow one of my studs.
Breeders/owners with the cats living the free life, runs not included, will also get a "No", because of the higher risc of transfering contagues diseases into my cattery.
You also have to be prepared to answers some questions, before we even begin to talk about which stud you may borrow.
The price for a breeding vary a little, cause it depends solely on which stud you would want to borrow. But my average price is 800 DKR. for the breeding itself, and 800 DKR. per kitten, that reaches the age of 6 weeks old. This does not include transportation of the male or other costs that might be added to the price, pending on what rules your country have, when a male is entering your country.
It is also possible that I would like to make a deal, rather than getting money for the breeding. For instance, if the breeder that approaches me, has a male that would be intersting for me to borrow, or I might be interested in getting a kitten from the litter.
From time to time people ask me if I will let my male(s) go to the females house, and breed with her there, in stead of the female coming to my house, and that is of course also an obtion. I do however have some requirements, in order for this to becoming a reality, based on what stud we are talking about. So this is something we would have to discuss, before I can say either yes or no to such a request.
I also lend out my males to breeders from other countries and, as a general rule, I want the female to come and stay with me, in my house. In some cases however, I will be willing to let my stud go to the other breeders house. That`s why, my males are *made ready*, for countries that has some additional requirements, requirements we don`t have here in Denmark. Read more about this at the bottom of this page.
All my studs are of course kept up-to-date with their vaccinations against all the *common things*, including rabies.
Starting from October 2004 we will only take in females for breeding who are EITHER tested free from HCM, PKD, HD & PL or descends from tested parents. Because all our males are tested free it will be more fair if the female is tested free as well, because why test at all if we only test one of the parents?:-)
