For the first time ever I, Carli, feel in love with a newborn kitten. There is usually at least one kitten that I, during the time they are in the house, gets a special relationship to, but with Sarabi it was different, at least for me:-) She stole my heart right away when she was born.
I wasn`t really suppose to keep a kitten from this litter, because Sarabi`s father also is the father of IC Tilia Nova`s Ingjalf, my main stud. Therefor it would have been more wise to keep a kitten from another stud. After all she WAS booked for the USA from scratch:-)
But when the kittens became 4 weeks old, Fie became very sick and I decided to keep one from the litter after all, because I weren´t sure if Fie would make it or ever have kittens again. The Americans was told that they would have to pick another kitten from the litter, or wait until next time I had kittens. They chose to have Savannah instead.
Ever since I decided to keep her, I have been thrilled with the way she has developed and so has some of the kittenbuyers:-) Especially Sanne & Jesper, Silver Heart, feel for her the very first time they saw her in my home. From the pictures on my homepage they had already prior to their visit fallen for her, and some of my other "silvercats", but when they meet her there was "magi in the air":-)
Sanne & Jesper asked me repeatedly if they could buy Sarabi, but I refused to sell her! They were offered first choice on any other silver female in a future litter, cause they really wanted to "work with" silvers:-)
Sarabi was a very special cat to me because the S-litter became the last litter of kittens, that Fie had. That`s why I wouldn´t sell her, but keep her in my breeding program. When Sanne & Jesper fell totally in love with her, at the age of 6 months and kept asking me if they could buy her. Sell Sarabi? No I couldn`t do that, but Sarabi could live with them as a hostcat.
To make a long story short, we couldn´t work together after all:-(
Update 11.04.03
Because Sanne and Jesper is getting divorced, Sanne asked if I would like to have Sarabi and Vinja returned to me, which I of course would with pleasure! I picked them up myself at Sanne`s house, at the end of August, and when I returned home with them, they walked right into my group of cats, as if they have lived here always:-) My other cats accepted them right away. I will probably not show Sarabi, because she doesn`t feel comfortable when driving in a car. She drewled all the way from Bogense, where Sanne lived, to Praesto, a drive that takes about 2 hours. Therefor, if I can avoid submitting her to driving in the future, I will, and one of the ways is to keep her of the showbench.
Sarabi has had her first and second litter in our cattery, both with Leo.

We had planed that Sarabi should have one more litter in our cattery, before she was neutered, but in February 2007 we discovered a tumor on her stomach and we were afraid that it was a malignent tumor. We took her to our vet immidiately and unfortunately we were right:-( It's very common for females to develop malignent tuomrs, due to the birth control pills they are given their entire life, and even though we try to minimize the risc, by given them as few pills as possible, the risc is still there. The vet of course recommended that the tumor should be removed by surgery and because it was likely that it was due to the pills, it could mean that the tumor was linked to her reproduction organs, so we should have her neutered at the same time, just to be on the safe side. That wasn't what we had planed, but of course we wanted to do all in our power to make Sarabi survive, so we agred to the vets plan. And it turned out to be the right decision! The vet found a cyst in Sarabis uterus, a cyst he thought had a direct link to the malignent tumor. In retrospect he has been proven to be 100 % correct in this diagnosis. In most cases the female will develop one or several tumors 1 - 3 months after the first tumor has been removed, but Sarabi hasn't developed any new tumors since the one she had was removed and that will probably mean, that the vet removed all signs of the cancer and that we will be allowed to spend a lot of years with Sarabi.

As part of the HCM project at KVL, some of our cats was asked to come and give bloodsamples and also be scaned for HCM. Sarabi was one of the cats we entered the project and she will be scaned according to the "normal" procedures we follow, as recommended by Pawpeds.

The day came that we had feared for so long. Since Sarabi had the mammary tumor removed last year in February she seemed okay for a long time, but in May 2008 the tumor came back:-( And it wasn't just the one tumor that was back, but 2 had grown on the same spot as she had had one removed from the year and this time we knew that we had been defeated by the cancer:-( Once a mammary tumor returns the same place as it has been removed from before, it's a certain sign that there is nothing more the vet can do for the cat. After consulting our vet we decided to keep a close eye on Sarabi and as long as she seemed to have a good life, that would be enough for us. During the summer Sarabi started to graduately lose weight, even though she was eating much more than before. Once she began to lose app. 100 grams a week and we also noticed that she had lost a total of 700 grams since the last time she had been weighed, we decided that it was time to let her go, before the cancer could be seen and felt more on her body. The reason why she was losing weigth although she ate more than usual is because the cancer cells needs more energy than the normal cells in order to grow. The vet came to our house and we where given the oppertunity to say goodbye to both Sarabi and Kira in a nice, quiet atmosphere.
Sarabi - you are missed every day, for your kind temperemant, the
way you would push our hand with your head because you wanted to be cuddled
and because you reminded Carli in so many ways about your dear, beloved
mother, Fie. But most of all you will be missed becase you where you....
