DK Gardenia Gyldenløve

2010

Gardenia has moved home to Lene and her family after they had to say goodbye to soon to Yamasaki:-(

Black Bicolour (NFO n 03) Male
DK Gerbera Gyldenløve

11.28.10

Gerbera is staying home and will be a part of our breeding program.

In August 2010 Yoichi came to be mated with Gerbera, but unfortunately she didn't like being away from home and a week after her owners came to pick her up again. Since they still wanted to have her mated to Gerbera, we let them take him home with them for a period of time. Yoichi didn't go into heat and after a couple of months we started talking about taking Gerbera home again and letting hom go back to Yoichi in Spring 2011 when she hopefully will go into heat:-)

While Gerbera has been living with Yoichi's owner, Heike & Patrick, they have become very fond of him, so fond that they have asked if Gerbera could come and live with them if we at some point would need to find a new home for him. Usually we don't rehome the cats that are retired from our breeding program unless it is to the cats advantage, but after talking back and forth about it, we desided to offer Heike & Patrick the oppertunity to buy Gerbera from us now. The longer he is staying away from our home, the harder it will be to get him back into our group of cats. The fact that he would come back, leave and then come back again, will make it even more hard to get him back into our group.

DK Gladiolus Gyldenløve

On September 5 we got a call from Tina (Eavan's co-owner and where Eavan and her kittens are living) who told us that she had found Gladiolus on the floor liveless. We called the veterinary university animal hospital and Allan took her into the emergency vet there. After a thorough examination they found out that she was suffering from a neurological problem, which may have been due to a unfortunate fall, and since there was nothing the vet could do to cure her, Gladiolus was euthanized:-(

Tina is of course devastated, especially because she was watching the kittens all day and had seen Gladiolus playing with her siblings shortly before she found her.

We have finally gotten the pm result and it showed that Gladiolus was born with water in her head
(hydrocephalus), a very thin skull and one of her kidneys although perfect in texture, form etc. was much smaller than the other kidney which was totally normal in size, texture etc. The vet has found no informations that suggests this to be inherited in Norwegian Forest cats, but it is found to be inherited in Siamese cats, so of course this is something we have to bare in mind.
