From the first moment I saw Fjölners father at a show, I KNEW that I had to talk with his owners and hear if I could have him sire one or two litters! He was a very beautiful & classical Norwegian Forest Cat, in my view anyway:-) I was so fortunate that Eddies owners agreed to let me send a female to be mated to him.

Vinja gave birth to 4 kittens, 3 of them was born while I was on my way home from work, so Allan had to help Vinja with the birth, but fortunately she managed to take care of it all by herself, which made Allans *job* very easy, he just had to sit beside the box and look in admiration and wonder while the kittens were being born. I made it in time to see the last kitten being born, a total of 4 kittens, 2 boys and 2 girls.

I had desided that I wanted a boy that I could use in my future breeding program, but the choise wasn't easy at all, since both boys were very nice! In the end we chose to keep Fjölner and one of the girls also managed to sneak her way into our hearts and convinced us that she had to stay too:-)

I truly believe that Fjölner and Frigg, together with the rest of our cats, can help us keep the look and size that we think is right! Time will show if we are right-)

We also have Fjörgyn because the breeder that originally wanted her didn't take her due to personal reasons. We could of course have chose to sell her, but after having lived with her for so long, we just couldn't say good bye:-)

I had Fjölners color evaluated by a judge at a show, because I think that his silver is fading very quickly:-) He is now registered as a "potential" silver.

Fjölner was tested for HCM, PKD, PL and had his HD-pictures taken in April 2006 and we're very happy with the fact that he's tested free.

As part of the HCM project at KVL all of our cats was called to come and give bloodsamples and be scaned for HCM. Fjölner was one of the cats we entered the project and he will be scaned according to the "normal" procedures we follow as recommended by Pawpeds.

Fjölner has been mated with several females, who all have had kittens with other males, but none have become pregnant when mated to Fjölner. There for we have desided to have him neutered, since there is no point in letting a male stay whole when he can't impregnant the females.

WHen Fjölner was scanned in September the vet had to give him a dose of light anesthesia, because he simply would not let the vet scan him. When he was scanned you could see that his front ventricles were enlarged, compared to the 2 larger ventricles and it usually means that the cat has a disease called DCM (dialated cardiomyopathy = where the heart simply grows larger and larger). But because Fjölner had the mild anesthetic and the substance may have an impact on the heart, that will make it look as though the cat has DCM, the veterinarian want to see Fjölner again in 3 months, and this time he will be scanned standing, so we can see if it was the anasthetic or if he has DCM. If he has DCM it can usually be treated by giving the cat a daily dose of taurine, which will make the heart decrease in size until it's back to normal again.
