Unfortunately the other kittens in the litter didn't make
it:-(
Why we have lost 5 kittens within the first few days is a difficult
question
to answer but a contributing factor could be that they were born on day
61., when counting from the first day the parents were mated and that
is
a little bit early when we look at which day the kittens are usually
born
in our cattery. 4 of the kittens weighed just around 80 grams and the
fifth
only weighed 67 grams at birth, while the blue girl that is still with
us weighed 91 gram. This could indicate that she was either a day or so
older than the rest of the litter or that she some how got more
nutrition
from her mother than the rest of the kittens in the litter. Pocces own
mother has also had some problems with the litters she has had. Usually
only 1 or 2 kittens have been born in each litter, although she has had
one litter that consisted of 3 kittens, but it has been the rule more
than
the exception that each time only 1 kitten survived. In only 1 of the 5
litters she has given birth to have there been 2 kittens that made it.
This could indicate that there is some thing fundamentally wrong with
the
reproduction system and that's why so few kittens survive. We're not
sure
weather or not Pocce will have more litters but right now David and
Lone
are enjoying their singleton.
